I’ve always wanted to make a circus horse in bronze. I remember visiting the Circus Museum in Baraboo, WI many years ago. There I watched them load the antique circus wagons onto the rail cars with the large Percheron draft horses. All of the horses and wagons were then transported to Milwaukee for the Great Circus parade. I was hooked. I knew someday I’d do a series of circus pieces from that one experience.
Recently I picked up a new clay to experiment with it to see if it fit my needs of a fine surface but no cracking when it dried. It also can be fired and remain as a one of a kind sculpture or even make a mold and cast multiples. I’ve sent a group of works through the firing process without incident so I’m well on my way to transforming a clay model into a permanent creation. And I can’t think of anything else I’d rather do with ostrich feathers and a gorgeous horse.
