During winter it’s easy to stay in the studio and work on commissions that need to be done. Especially nice is the blank slate that January brings to us after the holidays. I relish pushing things back and starting anew for the year.
Today I’ve spent the afternoon laying out a painting of three show ponies. This will be painted on rag paper with gouache. One of my favorite mediums it allows for lots of detail but also allows for fixing it easily. Chalky, it’s a water based medium that is like watercolor but has a whiting agent in it that makes it solid rather than transparent. Sometimes I use it for it’s water based qualities and other times I use it for it’s ability to cover whats under it.
It’s a commission of one of my favorite people and her show ponies.
