The genesis of a Pegasus sculpture started during an exhibition of my work at the University of Kentucky’s Art Museum a few years back. I was asked to do a talk and demonstration of my work. I thought it would be fun to start a new piece right then and there rather than just being a talking head. I asked the crowd to give me an idea; a flying horse came up with a flurry of hands. Enchanted by the beginnings, the lady who suggested the subject later commissioned the piece. I was so excited when this came to fruition because they are such wonderful people and are truly great supporters of art and artists.
Rather than overworking the unfinished model, I’ve gone back to the drawing board. I’m working through the creative elements of the design and on to the structural of the design. Elevating the two flying horses into the air is going to be a challenge, but then again I would be unchallenged by a less typical rendition of a horse.
